En effet, dans la première partie, Morand (1697-1773) décrit plusieurs observations d'opérations, réalisées par lui-même, sur le cerveau. Notamment, la première opération d'un "abcès au cerveau" réalisée avec succès par Morand par trépanation de la mastoïde (voir Garrison and Morton, 4851). "Surgical drainage of a brain abscess was first performed by the surgeon Morand (1768), who successfully operated in 1752 for a temporosphenoidal abscess. The patient, a monk, had otorrhea followed by a mastoid abscess, which Morand drained." (Garrison/McHenry, p. 402).
