History of Cranborn Forest or chace deer preserve in Dorsetshire and the laws pertaining to the herd of fallow deer in the region.<br/><br/>WIth a two-page Appendix inserted at end dated 1834 and bearing the imprint of Bastable Printer Shaftesbury and recording the circumstances of the book's composition by "a retired Agriculturalist" and how in the year following its publication a legal action between a landowner and "the noble proprietor of the deer" came to trial; the decision resulted in the disenfranchisement of Cranborn Chace and "At this period Midsummer 1834 the deer are almost wholly extirpated - the full use of the lands is restord to the proprietors of the soil - and the country is released from many grievances formerly incident to the system of forest or chace."<br/><br/>Uncommon.
