For 6 years the defining elements of Australian youth of the 1960s & 1970s the Vietnam War surfing and rock'n'roll came together on a wide beach in South Vietnam. The Army built a clubhouse so the troops could stow their weapons have a hot shower change into civvies and enjoy a burger and beer with mates. It also provided the surfboards and fortified the beach with barbed wire and machine gun emplacements. This was Australia's own surfing enclave on the South China Sea- the Viet Cong-aka the VC or Victor Charlie or just plain Charlie-most definitely didn't surf there. Signed by the Author.
