Executed entirely in ornate Latin manuscript with elaborate calligraphic flourishes the diploma represents the golden age of Philadelphia medicine when the University of Pennsylvania stood at the forefront of medical education in the United States. In Very Good condition overall with age toning creasing wear along edges and small closed tear to bottom left corner. Only a portion of original ribbon remains missing usual seal. Hare was born in Philadelphia Pennsylvania on January 17 1781. He developed and experimented with the oxy-hydrogen blowpipe with Edward Daniel Clarke of Oxford shortly after 1800. He was a professor at the University of Pennsylvania between 1810 and 1812 and between 1818 and 1847. By the 1820s Hare had developed the "galvanic deflagrator" a type of voltaic battery having large plates used for producing rapid and powerful combustion. Agnes Maxwell-Lyte was the oldest daughter of Sir Henry Churchill Maxwell Lyte; the renowned English historian and archivist who served as Deputy Keeper of the Public Records from 1886 to 1926. In the publisher's original cloth binding with gilt title to spine. Externally excellent with slight bumping to extremities and the odd small faint mark to boards.
