While his biographical details are scant he was also the author "On Democracy" 1866 and "The Making of the American Nation" his best-known work Here is a detailed history and polemic on the issue of Home Rule for Ireland. Widely-held by institutions but scarce in the Trade. This is a Very Good copy of the First Edition. Distinctive cloth binding: the front panel is diagonally divided between green and yellow; titling in black. Clean text; xxvi 190 pages. The front paste-down has an interesting prize label awarded to Nicholas Moloney for "Vocal Music" in 1891. Light rub to the margins; yellow section of the binding typically shows its soiling. A solid copy of an histrorically important book. Note: due to a computer crash this book may also show up as "001006. First Edition. Hard Cover. Very Good/No Jacket. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall. T. 1886000879London: T. Fisher Unwin 1886. J. Arthur Partridge 1824-1891 was a Birmingham businessman and Liberal plitician. While his biographical details are scant he was also the author "On Democracy" 1866 and "The Making of the American Nation" his best-known work Here is a history and polemic on the issue of Home Rule for Ireland. Widely-held by institutions but rather uncommon in the Trade. This is a Very Good copy of the First Edition. Distinctive cloth binding: the front panel is diagonally divided between green and yellow; titling in black. Clean text; xxvi 190 pages. This is an ASSOCIATION COPY with stamps of the "Irish Republican Library" in New York City. There is a previous owner stamp "Patrick McKenna" on the FFEP with a penciled donation notation "Donated by Liam Kearney Liam Lynch Club". Lynch prominent in the Irish War of Independence became Commander of the IRA during the Civil War. There are two stamps of the "Irish Republican Library" on the last pages of book along with a pasted-down inventory number. This New York library was important to the Irish diaspora and its support for an independent Ireland. Textblock is lightly tanned; the front gutter has been reinforced with a linen tape. Light wear to the margins particularly to the head and foot of the spine. The yellow diagonal shows some soiling. An historically-important subject and an intriguing object from the Irish struggle. In an archival plastic protecto. First Edition. Hard Cover. Very Good/No Jacket. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall. T. Fisher Unwin Hardcover
1887001190London: T. Fisher Unwin 1887. J. ArthurnPartridge 1824-1891 was a Birmingham businessman and Liberal plitician. While his biographical dtails are scant he was also the author "On Democracy" 1866 and "The Making of the American Nation" his best-known work. This is a Very Good copy of a Later Printing of the First Edition missing the 1886 publication date on the Title Page; assumed as 1887. Held by sixteen libraries in the UK it is uncommon in the Trade. Cloth bound 190 pages. Although ex-libris this is one of the best copies Quercus has seen. The text usually well-tanned is still bright and fresh. The half-title page is starting but hoilds strongly. The striking cover with gold and green opposed diagonally is quite bright and clean although removal of a spine label has left some glue residue. A very respectable copy of this significant work of 19th Century Irish history. In an archival plastic protector. Later Printing. Hard Cover. Very Good/No Jacket. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall. T. Fisher Unwin Hardcover
