A survey of photography published in conjunction with the highly influential exhibition of the same name curated by Ansel Adams and held at the Palace of Fine Arts in 1940 as part of the Golden Gate International Exposition. This was the first major show In California of photography as an art form. The publication was directed by Ansel Adams and edited by T. J. Maloney Chairman of U.S. Camera. Grace McCann Morley Director of the San Francisco Museum of Art contributed an essay on The Motion Picture and worked closely with Adams on both the exhibition and the book. Focused almost exclusively on American photography A Pageant of Photography highlighted many significant California photographers of the 19th and 20th centuries. Notably there was an entire section devoted to California Women Photographers female photographers from California were featured in many of the other sections as well and Dorothea Lange contributed an essay on documentary photography. The people landscape and built environment of California also figured largely in the subject matter of the photographs. .Diego Rivera's oil painting "The Flower Vendor" one of the most significant works in the Albert M. Ralph Hale Mottram October 30 1883 April 16 1971 was an English writer known as a novelist particularly for the Spanish Farm books and as a war poet of World War I. Mottram went from being a bank clerk in Norwich before the war to becoming mayor there in 1953. The Spanish Farm won the 1924 Hawthornden Prize. He also wrote a biography of John Galsworthy. Eric Partridge founded The Scholartis Press in 1927 and it closed in 1931. He served the Australian infantry during the First World War living through the horror of the Gallipoli campaign in 1915. 6761Offered here is an offprint 8 x 5 inches on laid paper of a poem by William Ordway Partridge sculptor and sometimes poet printed in the Boston Evening Transcript Feb 19 1887 inscribed to F. Holland Day “Oct 3rd Dear Day Accept with my respect this sonnet to your Keats. Partridge.†The poem dedicated to Louise Chandler Moulton has the first stanza subtitle “Keats†and the second “Shelley.†Day was an avid Keats collector amassing a large and important collection. Very nice association copy of a scarce offprint. unknown
