Yanofsky was a pioneer geneticist who "showed that suppressor mutations result in the reappearance of an enzyme that has been missing from a mutant organism." McGraw-Hill Modern Men of Science p. 621. He carried out numerous studies of tryptophan and Neurospora crassa and made significant contributions to the science of genetics.
