pp. [vi], vii-xiv, 360. Index. Thirty-three pages of black and white photographic plates. Author headed British Columbia's Game department for thirteen years. "Everything that is stated in this narrative with regard to the habits of our wild life is, unless otherwise noted, first-hand knowledge that has been acquired from personal observation during over thirty-five years of wandering in the country. There are in every man of British blood traces of primitive man. They create an overpowering desire to hunt and kill. It is likely that there was more than the ordinary share in me. This is a hard country for a man of education unless he has private means, a profession, or exceptional business ability. For a man of moderate means there is no country on the face of the earth where he can live a more healthy or enjoyable life; but if he expects to be frequently indulging in sport and also to amass the 'almighty dollar,' he will have a sad disappointment. Fishing, shooting and making money do not go well together. I can bear witness to this fact!" - Author's Foreword. Two names written upon front free endpaper. Trifle of writing inside back board. Foxing, primarily to edges. Average wear to publisher's blue cloth lettered and decorated in gilt. No dust jacket. 22 x 15.5cm. A sound copy of this British Columbia hunting classic.
