First edition of this well-illustrated study on the environmental impact of the destruction of oil wells in Kuwait based on government documents issued by the Iraqi government during the Gulf War. The work presents this damage substantiated by copious data as a main goal of the Iraqi war strategy of delayed sabotage. An appendix lists names of Iraqi officers accused of being "environmental criminals" as they took part in the identification of targets and methods and the execution of the plan - phases which are carefully described in the first part. The second part discusses subsequent damages to the economy public health and the environment including air and water pollution and their impact on living organisms. The third part describes the strategies employed to limit the damage such as the efforts of firefighters in extinguishing burning oil wells. Quarto. The foreword describes it as the country's "national duty" to combine development with historically rooted values. WorldCat shows only two institutional copies AUC and Pennsylvania. The chapters not only focus on commonly appreciated aspects of Saudi modernization such as the oil industry but also on issues such as girls' education youth welfare and the media. Arresting images include pictures of Saudi citizens in hospital on the sports field and in news studios. Many colour graphics and bar charts illustrate the financial allocations made to different ministries agricultural figures and even the number of students enrolled in vocational training centres. Small quarto. Original green leatherette over boards front cover and spine lettered in gilt. With 2 loose leaves handwritten in Arabic. Minor soiling to boards spine and fore edge bumped a touch of rubbing to gilt contents fresh and bright. A very good copy. hardcover

Sold on behalf of the Society to Benefit their annual fund. SCARCE FIRST EDITION one of only 400 privately-printed copies most of which were distributed to members of the club. The Saint Andrews Golf Club in Hastings-on-Hudson New York is the oldest golf club in the United States. John Reid of Dunfermline Scotland founded the club in 1888. It has existed in its current site since 1897 and features an 18-hole golf course designed by golf course architects William H. Tucker and Harry Tallmadge. In 1983 the track was refurbished by legendary golfer Jack Nicklaus. Self-published unknown

Revised edition of Western Powers updated from the 1958 briefing including a length section on the "British position in the Arabian Peninsula and the Persian Gulf" framing six decades of British foreign policy within the context of Lord Curzon's 1899 analysis of the Gulf. "This memorandum had its origin in the need to put together for immediate use during the summer of 1958 documents and statements relating to the latest of the recurring crises in the Middle East". It outlines treaty commitments to different Gulf states and provides a documentary chronology of Britain's diplomatic relationships. The memorandum on Libya discusses topics such as defence population agriculture and fisheries transportation and budgets and finance. Two works quarto. Mimeographed typescript in both vols. In the 1950's Robert Hale was primarily a library supplier hence why this publisher's first editions are so difficult to find in such nice shelvable condition. The novel features Tony Pearson a failed professional golfer in a novel that ticks all the noir boxes with frenetic pace and noir atmosphere laid on with a trowel in a tightly-constructed dark and paranoid entertaining novel famous for its golf content. A rare promotional guide to the air route from London to Basra produced for travellers destined for the Anglo-Iranian Oil Company's refinery at Abadan in Iran. A map shows the route passing through the eastern Mediterranean and Egypt before arriving in Iraq. The text attempts to give the impression of a well-organized journey: "At Basra you will be met by a representative of the Company who will help you with the Customs and other formalities. After a meal at the Airport Hotel you will find that arrangements have been made for your onward journey to your destination". The map to the verso shows critical infrastructure across the Middle East including oil pipelines and railways. Octavo. With 4 photographs and 2 colour maps. Folding colour printed pamphlet 140 x 215 mm when folded 420 x 215 mm when open. Minor scuffing creased at centre a touch foxed at front. A very good copy. unknown
