Remarkable educational kit issued by Aramco to teachers throughout the U.S. from late 1969 into the early 1970s. In the words of a contemporary Aramco advertisement, "The multi-media 'You Discover Saudi Arabia Kit' is designed to allow teachers to introduce into the classroom by sight and touch, as well as the printed word, many facets of Aramco's operations in Saudi Arabia and some of the economic-sociologial aspects of life in that country". The kit includes a miniature flag of Saudi Arabia, sample coins, stamps, and worry beads, as well as an introductory booklet on Saudi Arabia and extensive information on the country, its geography, history, and culture, spread out on 24 folding instructional posters. Containing a wealth of information for expats, the set was also made available to university graduates considering a career in the oil industry. - A slightly later example with the book revised in 1972, this set is remarkable for including the separately issued 1971 documentary film to go with the kit. Comprising two titles and 39 captioned stills, it provides a brief overview of the people, history, topography, culture, economic development, and future of Saudi Arabia. - In the original cardboard box with shipping label addressed to the Meade Public Library, Kansas. Box a little grease-stained, otherwise in excellent state throughout. OCLC 2959261, 2723896.

Oblong folio (390 x 257 mm). 2 vols. in one. 56 ff., 63, (1) pp. With engr. title page and 59 engr. plates by B. Picart. Contemp. calf with gilt spine. Marbled pastedowns. Rare first German edition of Eisenberg's famous riding school, which boasts beautiful illustrations of horses and horsemen (repeated from the 1727 French original edition). Arabian horses in particular are lauded as "the finest produced by the Orient. They are exceptionally fine animals, especially those from the hills of Mokha [...] Arabian horses are full of fire and vigour in general and are possessed of a great natural agility [...] Their start is like lightning, and so they are incomparable for racing and tournaments, for they are skillful as well as swift". - Binding rather chafed in places; hinges beginning to crack. Some edge damage to plate IV; some browning or brownstaining to margins. From the collection of the Leipzig jurist and later senior alderman of the Leipzig council, Christian Gottlob Bose (1726-88), with his autogr. ownership "C. G. Bose. 1748" on the printed title. The Boses, a wealthy Leipzig family of merchants and aldermen, were close friends of the family of the composer Johann Sebastian Bach. While it was known that the twelve-year-old Christian Gottlob had taken violin lessons with the theologian J. C. Weiß, the young law student's passion for horses - an expensive hobby, but well within the means of any son of the gold and silver manufacturer Georg Heinrich Bose (1682-1731) - was hitherto unknown. Large 4to (260 x 328 mm). 26 bi-chrome lithographed double-page maps (each 485 x 315 mm), with 48 sheets of interleaved text, all contents unnumbered and entirely in Ottoman Turkish. Original half black cloth over red boards with cover bearing the title and the Tughra of Sultan Mehmed V Reshad in gilt. This is one of the rarest and most extraordinary works of late Ottoman cartography, produced by the Interior Ministry at the behest of the "Young Turks" regime on the eve of World War I. Published with text entirely in Ottoman Turkish, the atlas consists of 26 double-page maps, all of an extraordinary proto-modernist design, accompanied by detailed text explaining all of the road itineraries depicted. All of the maps are original productions, predicated upon the latest official sources supplied by both state engineers and private contractors. Of the maps, eight focus exclusively upon subjects from the Arab world, including a dedicated map of the Hejaz (with the Hejaz Railway and pilgrimage routes), as well as a map focussing upon Mecca and Jeddah. The atlas provides by far and away the most comprehensive and accurate record of the road system throughout the Ottoman Empire, taken in the wake of an unprecedented wave of infrastructure development. Additionally, while not part of the technical remit of the work, the maps also provide a stellar overview of the Ottoman railway system, including the Hejaz Railway and the in-progress Anatolian-Baghdad Railway. The atlas therefore gives the most authoritative historical accounts of the technical nature of the empire’s key corridors of military and commercial movement, as well as the most important routes of the Hajj Pilgrimage, during a critical historical juncture. - Internally remarkably clean and crisp, just some light natural oxidization of the original glue along the gutters of some leaves and light even toning to text pages, plus a few negligible stains, but overall in a very good condition. From the dust jacket: "The funniest and most popular sportswriter in America abandons his desk at Sports Illustrated to caddy for some of the world's most famous golfers and some celebrity duffers recounting it all in this hilarious and revealing look at the world of golf. Who knows a golfer best Who's with them every minute of every round hears their muttering knows whether they cheat Their caddies of course. So sportswriter Rick Reilly figured that he could learn a lot about the players and their games by caddying even though he had absolutely no idea how to do it. Amazingly some of the best golfers in the world -- including Jack Nicklaus David Duval Tom Lehman John Daly Casey Martin and Jill McGill -- agreed to let Reilly carry their bags at actual PGA and LPGA Tour events. To round out his portrait of the golfing life Reilly also caddied at the Masters persuaded Deepak Chopra and Donald Trump to use him as a caddy accompanied high-rolling golf hustlers in Las Vegas around the course and carried the bag for a blind golfer. In WHO'S YOUR CADDY Reilly chronicles his experiences in the same inimitable style that makes his back-page column for Sports Illustrated a must-read for more than twenty million people every week. From his laugh-out-loud portrait of Deepak Chopra decomposing on the green to his portraits of good ol' boys who bet $100000 a round to his hilarious descriptions of his own ineptitude as a caddy to his insights into what makes the greats of golf so great Reilly combines a wicked wit with an expert's eye in a most original and entertaining look at golf. WHO'S YOUR CADDY is the next best thing to a great round of golf. It is sure to delight low-handicappers high-handicappers and everyone in between.". INSCRIBED / SIGNED by Rick Reilly.
