William Webb Ellis è il nome che resta scritto negli annali della storia sportiva come colui che in un piovigginoso giorno del 1823, in barba alle regole del football, prese il pallone a due mani e si mise a correre con esso verso la porta degli avversali. A quel giorno memorabile si fa risalire l'invenzione del nobile, brutale ma sempre appassionante gioco del rugby.
