Alfred Edward Beken e il figlio Frank iniziarono a immortalare velieri nel 1888, quando si trasferirono a Cowes nell'Isola di White, località rinomata già all'epoca per le regate. Svilupparono una tecnica raffinata che, in pochi anni, li rese celebri nel mondo della vela. A più di un secolo di distanza, l'archivio Beken, unico nel suo genere, è costituito da più di 200.000 fotografie di incalcolabile valore, dalle preziose lastre storiche in bianco e nero agli scatti digitali contemporanei di alta qualità e perfezione tecnica.
