It was launched on November 14 1969 by NASA from the Kennedy Space Center Florida. Commander Charles "Pete" Conrad and Lunar Module Pilot Alan L. Bean performed just over one day and seven hours of lunar surface activity while Command Module Pilot Richard F. Gordon remained in lunar orbit. Size is 255mm x 205mm. Condition is good. C1972. Apollo 13 April 11-17 1970 was the seventh crewed mission in the Apollo space program and the third meant to land on the Moon. The craft was launched from Kennedy Space Center on April 11 1970 but the lunar landing was aborted after an oxygen tank in the service module SM ruptured two days into the mission disabling its electrical and life-support system. The crew supported by backup systems on the lunar module LM instead looped around the Moon in a circumlunar trajectory and returned safely to Earth on April 17. The mission was commanded by Jim Lovell with Jack Swigert as command module CM pilot and Fred Haise as lunar module LM pilot. Made into a successful film. Size is 255mm x 205mm. Condition is good. 228913 May 1836; 2 Great Newport Street London. 2pp 12mo. Bifolium. In good condition lightly aged. Corner of second leaf cut away on opening of letter and still adhering to wafer. Folded twice. Addressed to 'W. Upcott Esq.' Upcott has been 'so kind as to invite Mr Fields and me to spend an evening with you in going over some of your Literary treasures' and Rodd has 'an indistinct idea of some particular evening being named' by Upcott. In the hope that the present evening was not intended he asks Upcott to send word of which evening will suit his convenience. In a long postscript Rodd expresses the hope that - should the present evening have been intended for the meeting - Upcott will excuse Rodd's forgetfulness 'and impute it to the right cause the having of one's thoughts in a Sale-room added to which I had been travelling all the previous night'. Rodd was highly regarded for his knowledge and fair dealing. He issued several catalogues of Americana. 'Mr Field sic' was presumably James Thomas Fields 1817-1881 of the celebrated Boston firm Ticknor and Fields who started in the trade at the age of fourteen and whose name was 'Field' until later in life. 3 May 1836; 2 Great Newport Street [London]. unknown

19504750Washington DC: American Automobile Association - AAA 1950. Staplebound. Very good. Oblong folio 24pp. illustrated. A very good copy in the publisher's printed stapled wraps with a large flattened crease through the middle of the booklet. A very interesting and very uncommon comprehensive discussion of the proposed interstate highway system which would ultimately be implemented by Eisenhower by the end of the 1950s. The latest date mentioned in the booklet's text seems to be 1945 and the cars all appear to this amateur's eye to pre-date 1950 so we can safely date this large booklet to about 1950. We located no copies in commerce or in libraries at the time of listing. An excellent piece of mid-century Americana and automobiliana. [American Automobile Association - AAA] unknown

Self-printed colour-illustrated softcovers cover art of 1935 Hupmobile streamlined Art Deco sedan couple minor closed tears at lower fore-edges flight bumping to corners very minor dustsoiling still VG- copy from the Boone & Company dealership in Seattle WA. First edition of this very rare dealer’s promotional brochure extolling the advantages and beauty of the 1935 Hupmobile Series 518 sedan wearing the distinctive Raymond Loewy designs. These Hupmobiles were attractive comfortable and reliable and renowned for their rounded lines sloping frilles headlights that flared in the fenders and the split “Sea Gull†front bumpers. The 1935 featured new “Mouse Ear†vents on the hood sides and a mesh grille. Unfortunately the popularity of the styles attracted a hostile takeover of the company and after fending off the attempt and unable to secure a Federal Reserve Loan the company ceased production in late Dec. 1935. Burgess on front flap minor shelfwear very slight rubbing still NF set inscribed by the artist to Gene Sherman 1944-2007 famed southern California auto designer and builder renowned metal fabricator automobile restoration specialist worked at the Briggs Cunningham Automobile Museum until it closed and later opened a studio in Huntington Beach CA. First edition inscribed of this automobile racing portfolio of prints capturing the rugged dirt track era of the 1920’s and 1930’s when Burgess d. 1992 was himself racing. The prints include All Crossed Up Rained Out Off the Fence Buying a Little Fence Trouble in the First Turn The Weary Racers Time Trials and Burning the Midnight Oil. Burgess was a Boston-born race car driver whose speed shop built midget open-wheel racers and whose promotional abilities elevated New England racing before World War II. After developing superchargers and jet engines for GE during and after World War II he became the curator of the Briggs Cunningham Automotive Museum until it closed. Drawing upon many of the design cues first introduced in 1933-1934 at Chicago’s Century of Progress World’s Fair these models featured desirable configurations such as the 3-Window Coupe 5-Window Coupe 2-Door Roadster and the 2-Door Cabriolet with very few still surviving. There is a mileage table for surrounding states Washington Traffic Regulations Oregon Traffic Regulations and Regulations for British Columbia a key map of Automobile Routes thru Pacific Northwest and information about what the Automobile Club of Washington can offer drivers. "On June 7 1899 a group of gentlemen auto racers met at the Waldorf-Astoria Hotel in Manhattan and founded the Automobile Club of America. The Automobile Club of America was officially incorporated on August 15 1899 in order to "maintain a social club devoted to the sport of automobilism and to its development throughout the country". The original directors of the club were: Frank C. Hollister Charles R. Flint George Moore Smith Winslow E. Busby Whitney Lyon George F. Chamberlain Homer W. Hedge and William Henry Hall of New York City and V. Everit Macy of Scarborough-on-Hudson. While it was called the Automobile Club of America it was really a local organization. Of particular interest in this catalogue was their production of their New “Concession Car†streamliner diner car which featured stools lunch counter and well-appointed kitchen for successfully operating a moveable diner restaurant. Platt Trailer Co. was founded originally by Oliver Platt d. 1939 in 1934 after purchasing Doloretta Manufacturing in Osceola IN who produced cabinets cart tables and furniture and by 1935 moved to 44000 square foot facility in Elkhart. First edition of this very scarce dealer’s showroom catalogue for the pre-World War I United Motors Co. filled with factory photos advertising their innovative 6-ton tractor and semi-trailer configurations as considerable cost savings. For 2/3 of the cost of a 5-ton truck the retailer shipper etc. could field a tractor and trailer for less than $ 3300.00. Founded originally as the United Motor Trucks Co. before World War I as a division of the United Light & Railways Co. conglomerate to not only produce trucks and utility vehicles for their own needs but to meet burgeoning demand brought on by improving roads and fast-growing commercial demands before and after World War I. By 1922 Hulswit Kanary and Eckburg were building and selling United Trucks powered by a four-cylinder Continental Engine the lightest model featuring a worm drive and the others often fitted still with chain drives moving to shaft drive and by 1925 would be manufacturing what they called the “Highway Special.†Hulswit 1875-1933 was the president and organizer of the United Light & Railways Co. which held 13 railroad and public service gas & electric utilities and corporations in five states and was forced out of his company in 1926. By that time Kanary had decamped to Hollywood California and the truck manufacturing unit was spun off to ACME Motor Truck Co. of Cadillac MI which continued the badge for a short time. Advertisements for their truck line cease by 1928. Very few of the original company catalogues survive some business records and material can be found in the Austin Automobile Co.
