Fourth revised edition of this well-illustrated motel guide for Western automobile travelers as the country slowly emerged from the Great Depression. This association based in Santa Barbara California was one of the earliest motel referral services in the U.S. and managed to garner independent motel and motor inn operators across the country to subscribe and maintain their standards of comfort and courteous service. These illustrated guides prove invaluable in charting roadside architecture across the West amenities to be found by travelers and the variety of signage. This guide combines elements of the earlier Photo-mobile Western travel guides with mileage information phone numbers and images of the well-appointed motels. First edition of this stylish dealerâ€™s showroom brochure for the 1961 Oldsmobile automobiles which featured the introduction of the unique mid-size F-85 powered by a aluminum 215 cubic inch V-8 trying to compete with similar offerings by Buick and Pontiac. Featuring illustrations by Fitzpatrick & Kaufman who were able on occasion to include their initials AF/VK hidden in their General Motors artwork. The full size line-up models featured an all-new smaller streamlined and rounded body and chassis with perimeter â€œGuard Beamâ€ frame and all-coil suspension replaced the leaf springs. All of the full-size Oldsmobiles were powered by the 394 cubic-inch Rocket V8 with the Dynamic 88 featuring a 2-barrel 250 horsepower version. The Super 88 could be purchased with a 4-barrel 394 Skyrocket V8 rated at 325 horsepower. Fitzpatrick b. 1919 launched his career by apprenticing under John Tjaarda at the Briggs Body Co. as a designer in 1937 and later designed the Darrin Packard One-Eighty sedan before working for General Electric during World War II. After the War Fitzpatrick illustrated for Mercury Lincoln Nash & Plymouth before being recruited for the 1953 Buick portfolio and later granted exclusive contract with GM. Kaufman b. 1918 was a Disney animator who worked on Fantasia and Dumbo and later with the Army Air Corps First Motion Picture Unit and teamed up with Fitzpatrick in 1951. Their original artwork created for GM through 1970 remain some of the most desired automobile art of the 20th Century. Red padded vinyl 3-ring binder silver lettering stamped on front cover & spine rounded corners faint tidemark to fore-edges of some of the leaves very minor shelfwear VG; 2nd - Oblong 4to. 13 x 9 in. 124 pp unpaginated. printed on alternating thick and thin card stock with 286 nylon upholstery leather and simulated leather vinyl samples tipped in; w/ 27 paint samples bound spiral bindings including 9 mylar oversheets which are used to show colour combinations for different makes of Oldsmobile models. Original padded red vinyl 17-ring binder embossed raised silver lettering on front cover silver lettering on spine rounded corners minor tidemark & soiling to far lower right corners of text leaves still G- copy. First edition of these very scarce dealer showroom catalogues for the 1964 Oldsmobile automobiles which featured the introduction of the Oldsmobile 442 a muscle car option on the F-85/Cutlass platform to compete with the Pontiac GTO the F-85 fitted with cast-iron 6-cylinder and V-8 engines; and Jetstar I which was to compete directly with the Pontiac Grand Prix. The Starfire Oldsmobiles featured brushed-aluminum side trim with brand new sheetmetal and grille and taillights as well as the introduction of a concave rear window which blended well with the hardtop roofline. The new Jetstar 88 and Jetstar I models were the least expensive and sportiest models of the full-size Oldsmobiles and the 394 cubic inch Starfire Rocket V-8 was Oldsmobile’s highest output engine at 345 horsepower. The original dealer showroom catalogues complete with all the possible upholstery and paint combinations have become quite scarce and the product selling information catalogue complete with all of the 1964 updated package information and comparative price and selling points with Ford Pontiac and Chevolet provide an invaluable sales reference for these Mid-Century Modern classics. 1910s–1920s Photo Album from California Showing Farming Recreation and Trips to Hydroelectric Projects

1921List3510California 1921. Photo album measuring 10 x 12 inches containing approximately 360 photographs. Photos are approximately 3 Â½ x 4 Â½ and smaller with very good to excellent contrast. Album with wear to covers and edges of pages; photos generally excellent to Near Fine. A photo album belonging to an unknown Southern California family; license plates date the album to about 1914 to 1921. Most of the photographs are of family life including farm work: piles of hay; cows pigs chickens turkeys and horse-drawn plows; gigantic watermelons; and family members posing outside vineyards and in cornfields. The family also documented their car and their recreational activities including swimming hiking and fishing picnics and carriage rides. It appears that they were quite proud of their car and were frequent â€œauto-campers.â€ They seem to have taken a trip to Mexico or the Southwest as some shots show wide desert landscapes Joshua trees and low Spanish colonial-era buildings. Identifiable subjects include the ferry boat Ramona; the Rose Parade in Pasadena showing Culver City Pasadena and Glendale floats; San Gorgonio Mountain Half Dome and the Wawona Tree a giant sequoia in Yosemite; and the Fairview Farm Club paradeâ€”a line of cars driving down a dirt road the first decorated with cornstalksâ€”which is probably related to the ranching development located between Huntington Beach and Newport Beach. Someone in the family had an interest in hydroelectric power as many shots show ongoing or completed hydroelectric works projects in Southern California. Several show the Southern California Edison Big Creek plant. Located in the Sierra Nevada the Pacific Light & Power Corporation began the Big Creek project in 1910 to provide power to the growing metropolis of Los Angeles. The photographs in this album appear to include both exterior and interior shots. Another set of shots show a dam under construction; this may be Devilâ€™s Gate Dam on the Arroyo Seco which was constructed in 1920. Of interest to historians of Southern California in the early twentieth century and some of its public works projects. unknown

A remarkably sophisticated manufacturer-issued automotive catalogue issued at the height of Franklin's influence this volume functions simultaneously as a luxury sales presentation and a technical exposition of the company's distinctive air-cooled engineering philosophy. Unlike many contemporary automobile catalogues that relied primarily on promotional imagery Franklin devoted substantial space to explaining mechanical construction operating principles and performance advantages presenting its automobiles as advanced engineering achievements for a technically minded and affluent clientele. Among the most substantial American automobile catalogues of the late Brass Era it captures the intersection of industrial innovation luxury marketing and consumer culture at a moment when competing visions of automotive technology were still actively contested. The survival of the original June 5 1918 price sheet further enhances its documentary value preserving a notably complete record of one of America's most innovative automobile manufacturers and its effort to educate prospective buyers as well as sell them a car. CONDITION: Very Good. The bindings are tight and square. Text is clean with light even age-toning throughout. Moderate shelf handling is present with rubbing to the lower corners and a small scuff mark centered on the spine. The photographic plates remain bright and well-preserved. Laid-In Material: The original printed price sheet titled 'Effective June 5 1918' remains present and well preserved.
