First edition of this wonderfully done Jazz Age automobile travel brochure promoting the many recreational activities at the beaches in Pacific County WA during the 1920s. The piece includes photos of bathing at Tokeland Beach streets at Ilwaco the fish hatchery in Chinook the huge lumber mill in Raymond as well as the South Bend waterfront. When the map was drawn and printed there were sections of the state highway on the Washington side which were still gravel and unimproved and it marks as well the areas where ferries were needed for crossing. Plymouth was conservatively styled with its first new postwar designs and was placed on a 118.5 in. wheelbase just a little shorter than the P15 models. These DeLuxe models featured a Club Coupe 4-door Convertible Club Coupe and 4-door Woodie station wagon. The headlights sat higher the unique bumpers featured three horizontal ribs and perhaps the most beautiful instrument dash ever installed in a low-priced automobile. First edition of this exceedingly scarce dealer’s brochure praising the record-setting endurance trials driven by Floyd Clymer of Denver CO in 1925. The first was on the Lookout Mountain and Circle Route of 57 miles long featuring 412 dangerous curves where he maintined an average speed of 44.91 miles per hour and was able to make the run in 1 hour 16 minutes clipping over 1 minute off the previous record and the next week drove the Pike’s Peak course in 28 minutes 49 seconds fastest time ever made by a stock car. The 1925 Oldsmobile Six Model 30-C sported a 169 cubic inch 6-cylinder flathead engine a modernized radiator and Fisher Body coachwork. No copies in Worldcat. First edition. 5 1/4" x 6 1/2" color pictorial wrappers with picture of the Serpentine Trail on front wrapper and a vehicle nearing the summit on the rear wrapper. 16 pp. including covers illustrated. While billed as "wonderful new auto road" the road is twenty to fifty feet wide and unpaved but undoubtedly the grandest scenic highway in America at that time. Views at different stopping points along the route to the top are provided some in black and white and others in color. The road was usually open from the first part of May until the end of October and there was a fee to make the trip to the top. The toll charges for those driving their own auto was $2.00 per person and with a $4.00 minimum motorcycles $2.00 per person pedestrians and equestrians also $2.00 per person children 6 to 12 years of age half fare. In the center of the booklet is a double page spread in color of a view of a section of the auto road to the summit of Pikes Peak. Light soiling else a near fine copy. Privately printed, n. d.
