The 2002 biennial is no exception encompassing over 100 artists working in film video computer projects music sound-based art photography painting and sculpture. The catalog design two pages devoted to each artist with images printed on bright glossy stock and text on contrasting darker paper does a fine job of managing the excitement presenting the works in a consistent format and thus lending cohesion to a subject that might overwhelm readers. This is a catalog in the truest sense of the word a systematic listing in alphabetical order of the contents of the show that will serve best as a checklist for students and scholars interested in studying this biennial long after the sound and color have faded. The brief descriptions of each of the artists' works are fine thumbnail sketches but those interested in learning more about these artists many of them quite young will need to look elsewhere. Taking the philosophical concepts outlined in his earlier book ""This Time the World"" Rockwell distilled his political message into a hard-hitting easy-to-read volume which is guaranteed to leave the reader shaken despite having first been published in 1966.

In 1958 alone and without funds he hung up the Swastika and founded the first openly National Socialist organization anywhere in the world after the end of the Second World War. Using dramatic street tactics uniforms and planned publicity stunts Rockwell soon attracted worldwide attention and a small band of followers across America. Rockwell's highpoint came with a 3000-strong rally at Marquette Park in Chicago in August 1966. Just as Rockwell seemed to pose a credible political threat he was assassinated in August 1967 just a few months after this book was first published.
paperback

196614292Arlington Virginia: American Nazi Party 1966. In an atmosphere of increasing racial tension and black revolutionary fervor American Nazi Party leader George Lincoln Rockwell issued this alarmist publication describing the rise of ‘Black Power’ among groups such as SNCC and CORE who he maintained were planning on sending “carloads of heavily armed blacks roaring into White areas to burn loot beat rape and “KILL WHITEY.†He asks

“White Man what will happen when the black revolution breaks out not in one spot but in a hundred places at the same time so that troops cannot even begin to be sent to all those places at onceâ€

He then cites the inability of the police politicians and patriotic groups such as the American Legion and John Birch Society to defend whites and volunteers to recruit train and lead white men in defending their neighborhoods. As was generally the case when the ANP issued its provocative lurid propaganda few answered the call.

Tabloid format printed in black and brown on newsprint 4 p. Photograph of a black “savage†and a black panther illustration. A fine copy. Scarce. One copy in WorldCat at Michigan State University. American Nazi Party unknown
