Old fold lines with a bit of wear along one vertical fold with loss of a few letters; some fading along folds but overall a nice copy. Accompanied by an envelope moderately soiled and spotted printed with the image of Dr. Joe and "Compliments of Dr. Blue Mountain Joe" 9 x 15 cm. torn open at the left margin. Formulas for the treatment of various illnesses as well as poisons to eliminate bed bugs cockroaches and flies powders to treat horses and cattle and several "Indian" cures for hydrophobia asthma and charms to keep away disease.<br/>Dr. Blue Mountain Joe was considered an illegal "itinerant vendor" of medicines and nostrums by an Illinois Supreme Court ruling in 1889. The good "doctor" apparently had a traveling variety show with entertainers including musicians strongmen Native Americans "real or pretend" etc. He would give free evening shows "consisting of music singing jokes wire-walking and other performances" then use the venue to peddle his patent medicines to the gathered crowds. see: Twentieth Annual Report of the Illinois State Board of Health Springfield IL: 1898 Court Decisions pp. xcix-ci. A small archive of material from 1910 for the Riverview Park development in Glendive Montana a town that was expected to gain prominence backed by government funded irrigation projects new railroad lines and general westward expansion. Located in the far eastern part of Montana Glendive was established by the Northern Pacific Railway during the construction of its transcontinental rail line in the 1870s. In 1910 the town had a population of 4500. Despite the promise of Riverview Park its population is roughly the same today.<br /> <br /> This unique land promotion archive consists of disbound pages from a rare promotional booklet not found in OCLC. Included is the color cover art showing eager investors flocking to Glendive a 10" x 20" bird's eye view of Glendive "showing the advantages of the Riverview Park Addition" two detailed newspaper advertisements a real photo postcard showing "House No. 1" under construction several mimeographed testimonial letters and samples of the company's printed application forms and payment receipts. Two 8 1/2" x 7" black-and-white photographs of a group of people sitting on a long porch are unidentified.<br /> <br /> In his testimonial letter E.J. Berry proprietor of Glendive's Hotel Jordan urged prospective buyers: "I can and do advise all that can purchase one or more of these lots to buy. I can further honestly say that there is no addition to any town in the State of Montana that will have the improvements placed on it when the work is completed by the Glendive Montana Company Inc. beautiful ornaments streetlights shade trees concrete walks water mains."<br /> <br /> The testimonial letters and a few small pieces of ephemera have been affixed to stiff black scrapbook sheets; otherwise the materials are in very good condition and provide a unique view of land development and western expansion. unknown

br. Questo volume ripercorre, per la prima volta in maniera sistematica ed approfondita, l'eccezionale parabola esistenziale di Tullo Morgagni (Forlì, 1881 - Verona, 1919). All'alba del Novecento, appena diciottenne, giunge a Milano, dove si costruirà rapidamente una fulgida carriera giornalistica, dapprima nel quotidiano politico "L'Italia del Popolo", poi nel mondo dell'emergente stampa sportiva. Diventa redattore-capo de "La Gazzetta dello Sport" (1905-1912), poi dal 1913 fondatore e direttore de "Lo Sport Illustrato", infine guida illuminata della prima rivista nazionale integralmente dedicata all'industria del volo umano, "Nel Cielo" (1917). Frutto di un lungo scavo archivistico (in particolare nel Fondo Tullo Morgagni, conservato presso la Biblioteca comunale di Forlì), la ricostruzione realizzata dallo storico Domenico Guzzo recupera immagini inedite e documenti dimenticati per raccontare l'epica avventura di Tullo Morgagni, che a soli ventotto anni portava già i galloni di "padre" della stagione ciclistica italiana - avendone ideato l'evento di apertura, il Giro di Lombardia (1905), quello di chiusura, la Milano - Sanremo (1907), e la sua manifestazione centrale, il Giro d'Italia (1909). Un percorso oltremodo brillante che s'interromperà tragicamente e prematuramente a soli 37 anni, nella prima grande catastrofe aviatoria della storia italiana (il cosiddetto "disastro di Verona" del 2 agosto 1919, nel quale perirono 17 viaggiatori), ma che ci viene adesso restituito in tutta la sua valenza globale. I frutti dell'inesauribile inventiva e dell'ossessiva ricerca del limite umano espressi da Tullo Morgagni, rappresentano ancora oggi un misconosciuto pilastro dell'informazione giornalistica, della pratica sportiva, della mobilità collettiva in Italia e in Europa.
