HB, 240 x 170 mm, 214 p, 140 illustraties FR edition. ISBN 9782930117904. Bernard Vanommeslaghe est un alpiniste amateur qui a fait plus de cinq cents courses et randonnées à ski dans les Alpes. Il avait une prédilection particulière pour les grandes courses mixtes, ces itinéraires longs et variés, mêlant glace et ro-cher qui sont souvent à l'écart des sentiers battus. Ils ont pour noms Arête de Peuterey, Innominata, voie Major, Poire, voie Brioschi, couloir Marinelli, Younggrat, Quatre Ânes, arête Anderson et tant d'autres. De Macugnaga à Grindelwald, Bernard Vanommeslaghe a dénombré une quarantaine de ces courses devenues «classiques», même si certaines d'entre elles sont rarement faites. Il en a personnellement parcouru trente-cinq. Un palmarès sans doute inégalé, même pour des guides. Cet ouvrage nous livre les souvenirs que ces grandes courses ont laissés chez ce citadin qui, par ailleurs, a mené en Belgique une vie professionnelle bien active. Ce n'est pas une description d'itinéraires et encore moins des récits détaillés de courses, plutôt une sorte de patchwork d'impressions et de descriptions de lieux souvent chargés d'histoire. Bernard Vanommeslaghe était un grand amateur du Mont Blanc : il l'a gravi 42 fois par 17 itinéraires différents, dont toutes les grandes voies italiennes. Mais Cervin, Aiguille Verte, Weisshorn, Dent Blanche, Schreckhorn l'ont également vu maintes fois déboucher à leurs sommets. Il est né en 1934. Il est belge. Il a mené une carrière bien remplie en développant sa propre entreprise parallèlement à sa fonction de professeur d'Université.
