Roman 1864-1934 was a physician surgeon and writer. He was the first African-American to graduate from the Hamilton Collegiate Institute in Ontario and also the first to receive training in ophthalmology. He had a outstanding career as a physician and also had a good deal of success as a writer. His best known work was Meharry Medical College: A History.
