"Décima Incisión II" is a project spearheaded by the Engraver's Association Asociación de Grabadores in BÃo BÃo Chile. Founded in 2014 the group brought together over twenty engraving artists from the region in order to promote and expand the work of artists raise awareness of the traditional discipline help artists connect and collaborate and advance the area's cultural and social diversity. To achieve these objectives they centered their work around projects such as collective exhibitions public demonstrations and classes on art techniques and collaborative workshops. <br /> <br /> These efforts also gave rise to the revival of a historical form of literature and art known as "Popular Liras" in Chile and "cordel sheets" elsewhere. Featuring block prints on the cover and a narrative or poem inside these small affordable booklets reached their zenith in the 19th and 20th centuries. The stories were recounted in dizain and quatrain stanzas and explored tragic epic political fantastic or portentous events that delighted the public. <br /> <br /> This work features a collection of new Popular Liras showcasing traditional illustrations that were already falling into disuse by printers in the golden age of this popular art form.
