The "Trailtree" was supposedly a tree on the property of their estate which Native Americans used as a trail guide through what would become Chicago. Carr is also the author of noted biographies on Carson McCullers and Paul Bowles. Basis for the CBS TV movie starring Johnny Cash and Andy Griffith. The book recounts the trial and conviction of John Wallace the first white man in Georgia to be convicted on testimony given by the testimony of two black men.
