Measuring 25 x 17.5 cm with 16 pages of colorful illustrations this Ukrainian-language children's book is in very good condition with clean and bright pages. The whimsical illustrations by Yuriy Kozak perfectly complement the poem which tells the adventurous story of Todirko and his airplane making it a delightful read for young audiences. <br /> <br /> Yuriy Kozak 1933–2000 was a talented and versatile artist known for his work as a painter illustrator designer sculptor mosaicist and church muralist. Born in Stryj Ukraine and later residing in Clarkston Michigan he studied at the Center for Creative Studies in Detroit where he also taught. Kozak worked with Andrew Maglia Studios as a muralist and later as a sculptor for General Motors while contributing illustrations to publications like "Veselka." From 1965 he regularly exhibited in Hunter New York alongside his father Edward Kozak and his brother Yarema. His exhibitions extended across the USA and Canada and in 1988 he was commissioned by the Ukrainian Canadian Art Foundation to create the monumental Baptism of Rus Ukraine.<br /> <br /> As of August 2024 OCLC records indicate that only two other copies are held at Library and Archives Canada and the University of Minnesota. First edition; 10 x 7; pp. 3-16; stapled pictorial wraps in beige red and brown; illustrated with drawings in orange and green by Iurii Kozak; small rubbed spots to corners and tips of spine; a tiny bookshop price label to upper corner of back wrap; in very good or better condition. Roman Zavadovych 1903 - 1985 writing under the pseudonyms Roman zi Slavnoi Fortissimo R. Rolianyk and M. Mamorsky was a writer poet and arguably one of the best known Ukrainian emigre children's authors. His literary career began in the 1920s with contributions of fairy tales poems and youth plays to various magazines. After spending time in a DP camp in Germany Zavadovych emigrated to the US and settled in Chicago. He co-founded the Association for Ukrainian Writers for Children and Youth OPDL together with Iurii Tyshchenko worked as a co-editor of "Veselka" magazine and wrote altogether during his life over 30 children's books many of which would be reprinted and issued in several editions. The illustrator Iurii Kozak 1933 - 2000 was a Ukrainian artist graphic designer sculptor and an undisputed master in church mosaics stained glass and frescoes.
