A passionate report of the Lisbon earthquake written wonderfully. We can see here the influence of this earthquake on the thought of Voltaire and the Enlightenment. This reality is evident in this work of Voltaire. Here he brilliantly exposes how this brutal catastrophe made him question the existence of a good and omnipotent God and he reflects on human existence in a world without God. Regardless of whether we agree or not with these considerations everyone will be able to appreciate the beauty of this little narrative poem. EB; 8vo 8" - 9" tall . hardcover
