Rester av stämpel på porträttets baksida. Jmf Warmholtz 5946 noten som dock inte känner till någon italiensk översättning. Detta är den tredje upplagan av den italienska översättningen av Voltaires klassiska verk om Karl XII. Det franska originalet utkom 1731 och överättningar till engelska holländska och tyska utkom inom några få år liksom den första italienska som kom 1734. Den andra kom 1736. År 1744 utkom ytterligare en upplaga även den kallad för tredje. Porträttet i helfigur är graverat av Gioseffo Filosi verksam i Venedig mellan 1732 och 1744 och återfinns troligen endast i den italienska upplagan. unknown

Pappband der Zeit mit handbeschriebenem Rückentitel etwas berieben bestossen und fleckig/Innengelenke und Vorsätze erneuert/Titel mit Bildausschnitrt dieser ersetzt durch passende Lithographie der Zeit. - Fromm VI 26944/Wohl der dritte Berliner Druck der zuerst 1778 erschienenen Übersetzung durch Wilhelm Christhelf Siegmund Mylius 1754 - 1827. Im selben Jahr 1782 erschien bei Himburg eine zweite mit fünf Tafeln von Chodowiecki illustrierte Ausgabe dieser Übertragung mit der leicht abweichenden Bezeichnung "Neue Auflage" eine vierte Ausgabe folgte 1794 vgl. Goedeke. In der Vorrede zur ersten Auflage weist Mylius auf die Besonderheit seiner Übersetzung hin die in der Übertragung von Personen satirischen Anspielungen etc. auf deutsche Verhältnisse besteht. In der Vorrede zur zweiten Auflage musste er sich gegen harte Kritik zur Wehr setzen. Vom Standpunkt der Übersetzungstheorie betrachtet eine sehr interessante Übertragung mit einer Fülle von treffenden und kraftvollen Wortneuschöpfungen. With an engraved portrait and 21 copperplates.xiii 1 223; 4 243 pp. Two volumes bound in half green morocco over marbled boards gilt back with crown and sword in four compartments marbled end papersall edges gilt. Very Good Plus light edge wear extensive light pencil bookseller notations in both French and English verso front marbled end paper giving references for this work. With the armorial bookplates of Victor Duc de Saint-Simon Vermandois second Spanish Duke of Saint-Simon and confirmed as a peer of France by Louis XVIII in 1819 though with the rank of marquis not duke. He served as ambassador first in Lisbon then in Copenhagen before being named Governor-General of the French colonial possessions in India based in Pondichéry in 1834. He did not start using the ducal title until the 1840s. which dates this binding from 1840 to 1865 when he died. A Scarce edition which incorporates the plates of the Didot edition of 1795 but without the frames.
