1732004060London: C. Davis 1732. Voltaire 1694-1778 wrote here the first recognized epic poem in French intended to imitate Virgil. This is a Very Good copy of the First Edition in English. Full leather binding; red label with gilt lettering and ruling on the spine. Clean text; 308 pages with extensive Notes beginning at page 233. Previous-owner signature on the Title Page; two other faint signatures on Page One of the text. Generally bright and unfoxed. Rubbed margins bumped and with some chipping to the leather; there is some minor loss at the top of the Title Page. The covers are rather stiff to turn. Although far from a Binding Copy Quercus is of the opinion that rebacking would be in order here to maximize enjoyment. First Edition. Full-Leather. Very Good/No Jacket. 12mo - over 6¾" - 7¾" tall.
