Charles Ferdinand Duc de Berry son of Charles X in 1816. Mother of Henri Duc de Bordeaux exiled with the rest of the court in 1830 came back clandestinely in April 1832 in an attempt to place her son on the throne with her as a regent. Arrested and imprisoned in November 1832 freed in 1833 and sent to Palermo; she settled in Austria where she died.She commissioned a series of 250 lithographs reproducing paintings from the collection of the Duc de Berry. Written by André Cardinal Destouche a French composer best known for the opera-ballet Les Elémens. Previously held in the library of the Reverend Francis Hutcheson an Irish philosopher known as one of the founding fathers of the Scottish Enlightenment. In the original full mottled calf binding. Externally worn with rubbing and wear to the extremities. Light loss to the head and tail of the spines as well as the board edges. Further loss to the spine of volume five and the front board of volume three and five. Fading to the spine and the odd small mark to the boards. Internally firmly bound. Pages are very bright with the odd spot. Contemporary ink inscription to the title page. Previous owner's bookplate to the pastedown of volume three with a crease to the rear endpaper. The book begins with page 323 and continues to page 654. This is followed by the Approval by the King and a five-page publisher's catalogue. Clean text lightly toned; unfoxed; completely readable.
