According to the permission placed at the end of the second volume this fourth edition would have been printed in 1500 copies. It is illustrated with 2 engraved title-frontispieces bearing the mention ""Fifth edition"" and 5 figures etched by Coulet. Copy on blue-tinted laid paper. Later 19th century bindings in full blue morocco decorated in Du Seuil style signed Allô. Spines with five raised bands richly decorated with compartments fleurons fillets and gilt dentelles. Six-fold frame of gilt fillets and corner fleurons on boards. Gilt fillet emphasizing edges and headcaps. Wide gilt dentelles framing the marbled paper pastedowns. All edges gilt. A few very minor scuffs and boards slightly dulled otherwise a handsome copy. The Chevalier de Parny 1753-1814 was born on Île Bourbon present-day Réunion. He stayed in France as a seminarian then officer before returning to his native island which permeates his Madagascan songs. From the library of Léon Rattier with his bookplate. Manoury hardcover

Com cortes das folhas mosqueados a azul e folhas de guarda marmoreadas.</p>_x000d_<p>Exemplar com leve desgaste nas margens das pastas.</p>_x000d_<p>2.ª Edição. </p>_x000d_<p>Évariste Desiré de Forges Visconde de Parny Ilha de Reunião 1753 - Paris 1814 foi um poeta e militar francês. Aos 10 anos regressa a França estudando na Congregação dos Oratórios ordem para a qual decide entrar tendo optado no entanto pela vida militar sendo nomeado capitão do Regimento de Dragões da Rainha e ajudante de Campo do Governador Geral das Colonias Francesas na Ãndia onde recolhe material para a obra <em>Chansons Madécasses </em>um dos primeiros poemas em prosa franceses. </p>_x000d_<p>Com a chegada da Revolução Francesa e por razões de cariz pessoal serve nos escritórios do Ministério do Interior e na Administração do Teatro e das Artes. Em é recebido na Academia Francesa. </p>_x000d_<p>Parny ganhou o reconhecimento com a sua obra <em>Poésies Érotiques 1778 </em>uma coleção de poemas de amor; <em>Chansons Madécasses </em>1787 e <em>La Guerre des Dieux </em>um poema contra a igreja que seria banido pelo governo francês anos após a morte do autor. </p>_x000d_<p>Parny granjeou grande popularidade desde a França até à Russia sendo reconhecida a sua influência em diversos autores pelo mundo. </p> SACO JS694-2 unknown
