A first edition.Evariste de Parny was a French poet well known in the nineteenth century for his lyric poems especially the Posies Erotiques 1778-81 and the prose-poems in Chansons Madcasses 1787. He also wrote much humorous verse including the anti-religious La Guerre des Dieux 1799 and Le Paradis perdu 1805. The latter is a parody of Milton's Paradise Lost in four relatively short cantos.This work contains 'Le Paradis perdu' Paradise Lost a poem in four songs; 'Les Desguisements de Venus' The Disguises of Venus and 'Les Galanteries de la Bible' The Gallantries of the Bible'. A smart collection of French verse. In a decorative full calf binding with marbled boards. Externally sound with slight rubbing. Internally firmly bound.
