The box has a circular opening to show the fur on the book. There is slight discoloration of the pastedowns due to contact with the fur else in fine condition. The pictorial box has a few creases but is in very good to near fine condition. The pictorial paper cover on the box has a slight overlap on one side of the cardboard hole suggesting that the hole in the paper and the hole in the box were cut in two separate operations. The subject of the play written while Buchanan was living as a country gentleman near Oban Scotland is Napoleon III sometimes derisively referred to as "Napoleon le petit" by his fellow countrymen. DNB says that "Buchanan wrote too much and too variously to achieve the highest results but his lyric gift was strong and there was abundant if often ill-regulated force in his novels and plays.
