Agreement between Thomas Williams and John Clark to Collimore Chapman and William Henderson. Signed into record by John Lynn. Clear bright writing. Some staining to pages especially along creases and edges. A few minor tears with minimal loss. No loss to text. Pages now in clear protective cover. <br><br>The agreement states that according to a previous verbal agreement the men will exchange livestock and horses for tobacco. Collimore Chapman and William Henderson agreed to two thousand pounds of tobacco crop for two horses and twenty head of cattle. The tobacco crop would have to be delivered to Watts Branch for Thomas Williams and John Clark to be able to sell either publicly or privately by August 1 1797. Dated 1774 to an unknown recipient concerning soliciting his support in the bitter election campaign in Montgomeryshire in which Watkin Williams lost his seat. Sir Watkin Williams-Wynn 4th Baronet 1749 - 1789 was a Welsh landowner politician and patron of the arts. The Williams-Wynn baronets had been begun in 1688 by the politician Sir William Williams 1st Baronet but had inherited in the time of the 3rd baronet Sir Watkin's father the estates of the Wynn baronets He served as a Member of Parliament for Shropshire from 1772 to 1774 and for Denbighshire from 1774 until his death in 1789 aged 39. Sir Watkin played a significant role in the development of art in Wales as an early patron of landscape painting there which was to become the largest area of artistic activity in Wales. He sometimes wrote poetry and controversial articles under pseudonyms and kept his personal papers in a shorthand that was illegible to others. Before his death he rewrote his papers so that his family could read them. It was 22 years from his passing before his last surviving daughter allowed the papers into outside hands for publication.
