8vo., later impression, handsomely bound in red full morocco, sides with gilt frame border, back with raised bands, second and fourth compartments ruled and lettered in gilt, all other compartments tooled in gilt, hand-made endpapers, a most attractive copy ideal as a gift or for presentation. SIGNED BY THE AUTHOR ON TITLE. Arguably the most ingenious POW escape of WWII, it became a legend among servicemen long before its publication here in 1949. Two officers made home runs via a tunnel dug in the open air beneath a wooden vaulting horse. The scene was Stalag Luft III (site of the 'Great Escape' later in the war) and the story one of the true classics of WWII. Endlessly reprinted, it has now achieved the status of popular folklore. It was filmed by Jack Lee in 1950 starring Leo Genn, David Tomlinson and Bryan Forbes. Published in the same year as the first edition. Astonishingly, not recorded by Enser.
Book is in excellent condition. Binding is solid and square, covers have sharp corners, exterior shows no blemishes, text/interior is clean and free of marking of any kind. Sixty poems. 92 pages, signed by the author on the title page.

At the coast, after Pearl Harbor, a Japanese family might be living next door to you and a few days later they were gone and no one knew where, particularly after they left the exhibition buildings in Vancouver. I feel sorry this story has to be told, in part, so that such a thing does not happen to any other group of people in this country. Tashme was established at the Fourteen Mile Ranch and the first families arrived in September, 1942.
