1854WN5583New York: D.Appleton & Company 1854. A puzzling and interesting book. Original red cloth gilt with obvious removal by us of grey duct tape at bottom of spine. Another dealer has written on a preliminary that the book has "20 maps some folding". We have counted 24 with some folding and because there is a supplement bound in referring to the south and the west there are four more maps with 3 additional folding ones. A few of the maps folding have been opened roughly but are securely bound in and no pieces are missing. The supplement does not have an index of its maps but we believe that we have them all. There are charming small cuts picturing views of important sites about which the book speaks. The book has a mylar jacket and is a treasure for anyone interested in the U.S. in thepre-civil war era. In addition to paginations of 303 and 140 there are 4 pps of advertisements the last page of which has a small damp stain on its foredge. We have not seen another copy of this travel guide with the supplement included. New and Revised Edition. Cloth. Poor/No DJ. 16mo - over 5¾" - 6¾" tall. Travel Guide.
