There were other things in the stocking nuts and oranges and a toy engine and chocolate almonds and a clockwork mouse but the Rabbit was quite the best of all. For at least two hours the Boy loved him and then Aunts and Uncles came to dinner and there was a great rustling of tissue paper and unwrapping of parcels and in the excitement of looking at all the new presents the Velveteen Rabbit was forgotten. Hayward and mother of Florence Hayward - the Woman Commissioner of the Louisiana Purchase Exposition and the only American woman to be made an Honorary Associate of The French Academy and the only one to receive a Gold Medal for services rendered and a co-founder of the Artists' Guild. "Williams is widely regarded as the founder of the modern medical field of paediatric urology. In 1948 Williams was a resident in Urology at St Peter's. A boy was brought to the hospital who was suffering from urinary retention. Williams was shocked to know that not even senior staff in the hospital had any knowledge on how to treat the child. / Williams also came to know that there was no literature in the field. Deciding that the field needed to be studied more he began collaboration for a book with Twistington Higgins a general surgeon interested in urology. Williams Higgins and DF Ellison Nash co-wrote The Urology of Childhood which was published in 1951 and the book became a milestone in the development of child urology." Thomas Twistington Higgins worked at the Great Ormond Street Hospital between 1919 and 1953; while there he furthered the field of pediatric medicine and was largely responsible for pediatric surgery becoming a special branch of medicine. "Paediatric medicine had long been established as a specialty but it was largely due to Higgins that the surgery of children also became recognized as a special branch." – Royal College of Surgeons of England.
