The wrapper is protected in a removable Brodart archival protector. The book has been Signed without dedication to the title page by Sir Quentin Blake and a copy of the ticket for the signing event accompanies this title as provenance. Quentin Blake is one of the best-known and best-loved illustrators in the world creating brilliant and iconic characters for amongst others Russell Hoban Joan Aiken Michael Rosen and most famously Roald Dahl. He has won numerous awards over the years including the 'Whitbread Award' the 'Kate Greenaway Medal' and the 'Hans Christian Andersen Award' for Illustration. In 1999 he was appointed the first ever 'Children's Laureate' and in 2005 was created CBE. 1923AQ24641Cambridge: At the University Press 1923. 32pp 2. Six full-page monochrome reproductions of Blake's drawings included within the pagination. Original vellum-backed buckram lettered in gilt to spine with both the original glassine underwrapper and the printed dustwrapper. Decorated endpapers. The book itself is fine but for the slightest shelfwear. The glassine wrapper with a short tear to upper board; the dustwrapper a little chipped at head of both boards and slightly foxed - but nevertheless far better than is usually encountered. A limited edition with a note by British bibliographer and surgeon Sir Geoffrey Keynes 1887-1982 of a choice edition of Milton's hymn 'On the Morning of Christ's Nativity' with six designs by William Blake which 'have never been reproduced'; 'Each of the drawings bears Blakes signature and the majority are dated 1809. It was in this year that Blake held his exhibition of pictures in Golden Square but the designs for Milton's Hymn were not among the exhibits. Probably the drawings were bought very shortly after they were done by Thomas Butts Blake's most generous patron at that period.
