1972ABE-1630473250366Doubleday & Company 1972. 1st Edition. Hardcover. Near fine/Near Fine. Third printing. Signed by Jean-Michel Cousteau the son of Jacques Cousteau and for 20 years the executive vice president of the Cousteau Society on the title page. Signature is vertical rotated on the page. Also inscribed in bold Sharpie on the title page by it would appear the co-author of the book Philippe Diole: "5/17/81 To Hobye and Debbi Rogers Philippe." That signature is somewhat difficult to decipher and we can't find any other examples of Diole's signature. Laid in is a handsome invitation in baby blue to the Mr. and Mrs. Hobert Rogers from the Brielle Galleries in New Jersey to a 1981 reception to benefit in the Cousteau Society where the book was signed. Jean-Michel made an appearance. The gallery was introducing the limited edition Cybis Humpback Whale in Porcelain a figurine which Jean-Michel advised the creation of. A portion of the proceeds retail $1750 in 1981 were to benefit the Cousteau Society. Also included is a small pamphlet about the Cybis sculpture which probably accompanied the sculpture and several newspaper clippings about the event. The book is near fine with faint foxing to top face of text block and the publisher‘s purple spackle to bottom face; in a near fine jacket with light edge wear and one wrinkle on front panel. The invitation is very near fine with minor handling. Doubleday & Company hardcover
