DeMille's co-authorship was originally unattributed and the book club edition lacking a priced jacket as this has is sometimes mistakenly offered as a first edition. Very likely the most difficult DeMille book to obtain particularly in this condition and signed. Insignia of photographer Albert Witzel from the negative to the lower left corner. <br/><br/>Silent film producer director screenwriter and actor Ince was dubbed "Father of the Western" and was one of the first to organize motion picture production methods into a disciplined system of filmmaking. Gaining notoriety as the director of William S. Hart westerns in 1915 along with Mack Sennett and D.W. Griffith Ince formed Triangle Pictures Production Company. Ince's untimely death in 1924 aboard William Randolph Hearst's yacht has long been the subject of speculation and in 2001 was the subject of Peter Bogdanovich's largely fictitious film "The Cat's Meow." Ince is credited for making over 800 films over half of which are today lost.<br/><br/>8 x 10 inches. Very Good plus with a crease toward the bottom of the photo. N.p. unknown books

Blaine from the observations of his private secretary; from the library of Philemon Tecumseh Sherman. Octavo original cloth frontispiece portrait of James G. Blaine illustrated with black and white photographs. P. T. Sherman’s bookplate to the front pastedown beneath his ownership signature. In near fine condition. General William Tecumseh Sherman’s son P. T. Sherman was a lawyer in New York specializing in labor and insurance and was elected a member of the New York Board of Alderman in the late 1880s. In the early 1900s he was appointed the New York Commissioner of Labor. He transferred his library to his niece Eleanor Sherman Fitch the granddaughter of General Sherman through his eldest daughter Maria “Minnie†Ewing Sherman Fitch before he died. Until now the book was held at the family estate in Washington County Pennsylvania. James Gillespie Blaine was was a prominent American politician who served twice as Secretary of State. He began his political career as an early supporter of Republican Abraham Lincoln and the Union war effort in the American Civil War and was a supporter of black suffrage during Reconstruction. As Secretary of State Blaine was a transitional figure marking the end of an isolationist era in foreign policy and foreshadowing the rise of the American Century that would begin with the Spanish–American War. A nice copy. The privately printed autobiography of T. H. Mawson the British city planner landscape architect and garden designer. Mawson worked extensively in Europe designing gardens and parks across England and winning a competition to design the gardens at the Peace Palace of the Hague. He also contributed his designs to the United States including parts of the Great Smokey Mountains National Park and Canada. Mawson developed a plan inspired by the City Beautiful Movement for the City of Calgary that was never implemented. Mawson's philosophies were inspired in part by the City Beautiful movement which looked to design aesthetically beautiful cities that also promoted a civic harmony among its inhabitants.
