Alexander Carlyle 1722-1805 was a Scottish church leader who served as Moderator of the General Assembly of the Church of Scotland between 1770 and 1771. This autobiography edited by John Hill Burton provides an interesting insight into the social and ecclesiastical history of Scotland in the 18th century though it does not extend beyond the year 1770.
