A handsome set of Carlyle's modern history classic with the distinction of having been presented to Prime Minister Anthony Eden 1897-1977 whilst a student at Eton. Eden entered Eton College in the Lent half of 1911. To the surprise of his father for whom religion was a closed book he won the Brinckman divinity prize though his main enthusiasms were for languages and modern history. . 8vo.
