Fine binding. #176 of 250 copies printed by the Bird & Bull Press; a catalog of fictitious books supposedly belonging to Jean Nepumucene Auguste Pichauld Comte de Fortsas; the bogus auction was an elaborate hoax perpetrated in Binche Belgium in 1840. With a catalogue of the supposed sale in facsimile in pocket in the rear. It was carried out by a retired military officer Renier Hubert Ghislain Chalon who delighted in pranks designed to befuddle the academic world. Chalon also published more than one false archeolgoical discovery. With facsimiles of the "Avis" canceling the sale and a three page article "Vente de Livres de M. De Fortsas" tipped in.
