Lessing was the oldest person ever to receive the Nobel Prize in Literature at age 87. This set contains: The Four-Gated City 1969. The concluding novel in Lessing's semi-autobiographical series The Children of Violence. Moving to London Martha "is integrally part of the social history of the time - the Cold War the Aldermaston Marches Swinging London the deepening of poverty and social anarchy." The novel extends into science fiction depicting a dystopian future following the destruction of Britain. Briefing for a Descent into Hell 1971. A psychological novel. A well-dressed but disheveled man is found wandering alone at night on London's Embankment.
