Seventeen sheets of unbound folded paper in paper covered boards potfolio with booklet with illustrated floral stapled wraps laid-in. Walter Stein's visual interpretation of Chidiock Tichborne's final poem Elegy. Tichborne penned this poem in 1586 during his imprisonment in the Tower of London while awaiting execution for his alleged involvement in the babington Conspiracy "an attempt to dethrone Queen Elizabeth and replace her with Mary Queen of Scotland." The booklet included is an essay from the seventh edition of "Curiosities of Literature" written by Isaac Disraeli in 1823 describing Tichborne's loyal life before his imprisonment. All seventeen plates illustrated with color and b&w reproductions of drawings intended to represent respective lines from the poem which are written on the page. Inscribed on inside front board with date of November 4th 1967. Scuffing to portfolio and slipcase boards. Paper chipped at few edges of slipcase. Very good condition. Walter Stein unknown

Photographs include Van Dine as a baby and a young boy; as an 18-year-old having been expelled from Harvard; as an older man in various poses in his home and library; and as a successful writer posed with Hollywood stars George Burns and Gracie Allen who were to star in "The Gracie Allen Murder Case." Photographs have varying degrees of toning edge wear bumped corners and silvering. Some chipping and material loss to some. Minor soiling in places. Good to Very Good.
