Bella legatura in mezza pellecolor nocciola, 5 nervi, titolo, 5 fregi, luogo e data di stampa in oro al dorso, ai piatti sguardie in carta decorata policroma "al pavone" taglio sup. dorato. Al verso del piatto striscetta a stampa "Ausenda" e, al centro, l'ex libris di Charles Dickens col leone accovacciato reggente una croce a 4 doppie punte (il che, come la lussuosa legatura, indurrebbe a pensare che il libro sia davvero appartenuto a Dickens, che aveva conosciuto Hugo e che morì nel 1870) e, di fronte, bell'ex libris liberty "Ausenda" (fogliami, stemma, civetta). Conserva all'interno i piatti della brossura originale; il piatto anteriore reca in cima "deuxième édition", dicitura che stranamente NON compare affatto all'interno, che è certo identico alla prima edizione apparsa nello stesso 1868. "Bibliothèque contemporaine". Victor HUGO (Besançon 1802 - Paris 1885) NON è l'autore di questo libro, che si dichiara scritto da un amico che accompagnò Victor Hugo (che viaggiava in incognito) "avec ses deux fils" nella "promenade de plaisir et d'art à laquelle ma bonne étoile de touriste et d'ami m'avait fortuitement mêlé, et je vous demande la permission de raconter".
