Bernardini” di Lecce) inventariata e descritta da Luigi Giuseppe De Simone (Lecce, 1835 – Arnesano di Lecce, 1902), magistrato salentino e studioso dagli interessi variegati, che gli valsero fitti rapporti con molti intellettuali nazionali ed europei. Tra questi libretti si trovano riedizioni di antichi e noti cantari, poemetti pastorali, religiosi, storici, storie d’amore, di duelli, di briganti e assassini, contrasti, canzoni carnevalesche napoletane, ecc. La collezione, rimasta sino ad oggi sommersa, viene alla luce per la prima volta attraverso le schede di questo repertorio, le quali descrivono scientificamente i libretti nello stesso ordine tenuto nella miscellanea, mentre agli indici è stato riservato il compito di disciplinare la materia e quello di rendere più agevole la sua consultazione. Il volume viene così a configurarsi come prezioso strumento di ricerca che si affianca ad altre celebri raccolte del genere, italiane ed estere, e come ulteriore contributo allo studio di un materiale assai ricercato. RIMANENZA DI MAGAZZINO PARI AL NUOVO. Il volume raccoglie e propone alcuni dei saggi dedicati dal compianto Mario Agrimi, attento e accurato conoscitore della tradizione filosofica meridionale, all'opera di G.B. Vico sia nei suoi rapporti con la filosofia europea, non solo a lui contemporanea ma anche a lui precedente, e sia con quelli della sua ricezione. Tali rapporti, che non sempre si danno in forma manifesta nell'accidentata testualità vichiana, vengono spesso qui reperiti da un lavoro che è di approfondimento filologico oltre che di accurata e acuta esegesi testuale. Il Vico che emerge da questi Saggi è tutt'altro che un pensatore ‘solitario’ o ‘isolato’ nel suo tempo, bensì un Autore che, pur scontando significative resistenze e/o ripetuti fraintendimenti, le une come gli altri connessi alle spesso non occasionali ‘oscurità’ del suo testo, dialoga a livelli alti con le diverse e molteplici tradizioni della cultura meridionale ed europea. Il filo conduttore che attraversa la lettura di questo dialogo vichiano è quello di un suo moderno ‘platonismo’ (o ‘neoplatonismo’), che cerca in un nuovo e forse spregiudicato argine offerto dalla ‘religiosità’ uno dei motivi costanti per contrastare quella che a lui si offre come la ‘barbarie della riflessione’, e che viene ben esemplato fra altri dal seguente passaggio: «È la religio al centro dell’attenzione del filosofo napoletano, perché l’atto dell’originaria e fondante certezza ‘umana’, deve per Vico essere ad un tempo atto di accertamento del ‘divino’, per opporsi vittoriosamente al miscredente scetticismo libertino, contro cui si era vanamente misurato il cogito di Descartes». Also includes, Pennsylvania Dutch Folk Art and Architecture, and Kingston to Newson to Blake. Includes facsimile of a beautiful Hebrew book from Naples. The Jews in Italy, Spain and Portugal were the first to make use of the newly-invented art of Gutenberg for the production of Hebrew books. Hebrew printing presses were set up in various parts of those countries, and produced virtually all known Hebrew books printed during the fifteenth century. Naples, the largest and most beautiful city of Lower Italy, became an early and quite important center of Hebrew printing, second only to Soncino, even as it had become a large center of Jewish life. Though of short duration, the Neapolitan was perhaps the most cosmopolitan Jewish community in the fifteenth century. With the exception of Soncino, none of the cities in Spain, Portugal or Italy can claim the production of as many Hebrew incunabula as were printed in Naples in less than a decade. " In that vein, he fruitlessly hoped that Jewish studies would be taught in universities as a regular academic discipline, and that he'd be able to do the teaching. He believed that Jewish literature and learning was part of the broader scope of human affairs, including the sciences, and should not be shut up merely in discussions of religious matters. For his seventieth birthday, a foundation was set up to fund Zunz's and other similar scholarship. He continued to work until 1874, when his wife's death left him seriously depressed.
