1977022334Beverly Hills: Tri-Sigma Sorority Publisher 1977. Wraps. Good. Yellow wraps roughly 8 ½ by 11 inches. 16 pp. including covers. Early issue of this zine devoted to heterosexual crossdressing. It originated in a more zine-like format in the late 1970s before adopting a more polished magazine-style look in the 1980s. The zine served as the official publication of the Tri-Ess Society an organization founded by Virginia Prince to destigmatize crossdressing. Prince held anti-trans and sometimes homophobic views that excluded the transgender community. Under the leadership of Carol Beecroft the organization became more inclusive forming alliances with LGBTQ groups and helping to form the Southern Comfort Conference a gathering of transgender people. This issue edited by Carol Beecroft. Includes make up tips and an article describing the trouble faced by a teenage "transvestite" in their household. GOOD condition. Large dampstain affecting most of the zine resulting in brownish discoloration and some rippling to the paper. Minor soiling and staining. Tri-Sigma Sorority, Publisher unknown
1938001002Dover DE: D.M. Publishing Co. Inc. 1938. First Edition . Wrappers. Very Good Plus. 10" x 7. Driben Peter. Dover DE: D.M. Publishing Co. Inc. 1938. First edition. February 1938 issue of "Bedtime Stories". Cover art by Peter Driben interior art largely uncredited except for cartoons by R.C. Dell. Nude photographs; over 18 sale only. Illustrated wraps 10" x 7" 64 pp. Bright and very well preserved. A few small spots of soil toward top of cover see scan light soil shadow on rear cover otherwise really not much to point out for flaws. An exceptional example of the early pin-up / girlie pulp genre. Very good plus maybe a bit better. Graced by a rare early Peter Driben cover this is a scarce issue of a scarce title in a scarce genre and is remarkably well-preserved. Unlike its sister publications of the era the nude photographs in Bedtime Stories were not all in one central section; herein they are scattered throughout soft by current standards as is the erotic fiction somewhat off-clor jokes and cartoons. Except for Dell's cartoons the interior art accompanying stories and humor is uncredited but often really rather well done with art deco or flapper-esque appeal. Stories - almost certainly by pseudonymic authors except for the notable Robert Leslie Bellem - include: "One Last Fling" Mason Johns; "Beauty's Bait" Paul Terry; "Hero By Proxy" Claire Kennedy; "New Love For Connie" Tome Kane; "Man Wanted!" Don King; "Hollywood Madness" Robert Leslie Bellem; "Birthday Present!" Otto Nelson; "Suzanne's Dilemma" Grace Bennett; and "He Got His Story!" Cliff Carruth. Classic example of the genre. - Jeff Harvey L100

D.M. Publishing Co. Inc. unknown

Some trivial handling; a clean fine copy without the wrapper. Ian Fleming's first appearance in book-form following a privately distributed ring-bound manual for Kemsley journalists. His contribution was a very readable essay pp.238-246 in which he discusses his department and provides an insight to the news-gathering techniques of the Foreign service whilst describing the qualities required for his 'ideal foreign correspondent'; who must be able to 'drink with the meanest spy or the most wastrelly spiv.be grounded in the history and culture of the territory in which he is serving.be intellectually inquisitive. able to keep a secret. physically strong. fast with a typewriter. and able to drive a car.' After the war Lord later Viscount Kemsley was quick to take Fleming under his wing by offering him a job as foreign manager of his Newspaper empire. Throughout their working relationship Kemsley regarded Fleming as a favoured son and although by no means a senior figure in the organisation Fleming was the only person in the building who would call Lord and Lady Kemsley by their first names and frequently saw them socially. Fleming soon brought the ailing Sunday Times glamour social cachet and credibility and in return was given the means and opportunity to pursue his lifestyle with little inconvenience ultimately leading to the creation of James Bond.
