A Sunday newspaper of the Nineteenth Century the publication was founded by noted Georgian literary figure Theodore Hook and was noted for its patriotic nature. It would continue until the early 1960s. The volumes and issues here date from between 1820 and 1828 including issue one and offer hundreds of literary political and economic insights into the era as well as letters and advertisments. Volume I includes issues 1-55 1820-1821 Volume III includes issues 108-1059 1823 Volume IV includes issues 1-30 32-39 and 41-52 1824 of a new numerical issuing system Volume VIII includes issues 369-420 1828 There are inkstamps throughout stating the price at four pence. In decorative quarter-morocco bindings with gilt detailing and paper-covered boards. Externally sound rubbed to the extremities joints boards and backstrip with slight loss to some backstrips. The hinges are also tender. Internally several endpages are partially detached as well as creased. Pages are generally bright and clean with the odd spot heavier to the first and last few pages.
