Being a collection of four single month issues of various publications from 1886-1890. With beautiful coloured plates. Comprising of: 'Yule Tide Cassell's Christmas Annual' 'The Queen The Lady's Newspaper and Court Chronicle' - March 1886 issue 'The Gentlewoman' Volume I No 10 September 13 1890. 'The Graphic Christmas Number 1886' 'Yule Tide' is undated. Advert for 'Borax Dry Soap' states 'For The Year Eighty Eight and All Succeeding Time' and publisher's adverts are for the year 1888-89 therefore this is likely to be from December 1888. 'The Graphic Christmas Number' contains eleven large colour plates one of which is a double-page spread. With the front wrap for 'The Graphic' bound in at the rear. With four full page images to 'Yule Tide'. All three of the periodicals are adorned with adverts for Victorian companies such as Beechams Pears' Soap and Cadbury's. There are numerous adverts for wig-makers and corsets in addition to Liberty and Co London. 'Yule Tide' is a publication by Cassell and Co intended as a festive gift. It contains poems short stories and a humorous image of anthropomorphic cats. An advert for Beechams is to the start of this work which depicts Henry Fielding as Hamlet with the caption 'To Beecham or not to Beecham'. 'The Queen' is a periodical tailored for women. There are job vacancies for governesses companions book reviews opera reviews fashion bridal dress advice sewing and embroidery patterns and much more. 'The Gentlewoman' was a weekly illustrated paper for women that was founded in 1890. It originally ran under the title 'The Gentlewoman: An Illustrated Weekly Journal for Gentlewomen' before merging with 'Eve: The Lady's Pictorial' in 1926. Over the years contributors to this periodical included Bram Stoker Frances Trollope Florence Marryat Arthur Conan Doyle and Mrs Edward Kennard. This issue has chapters on gardening 'jottings from the moors' and chapters from 'A New Novel' by Miss Katherine Watson. 'The Graphic' was a British weekly newspaper noted for its illustrations. The periodical held great esteem in the art world and noted admirers include Vincent Van Gogh and Hubert von Herkomer. Contributors included Randolph Caldecott Luke Fildes James H Dowd and more. A lovely example of the variety periodicals available in the Victorian era. In a full straight-grained morocco binding. Externally excellent with just some minor shelfwear to the extremities. Internally firmly bound. Pages are bright. Scattered spots to the first and last few pages otherwise just the odd spots to pages. Very Good Indeed Various hardcover
