Despite present hardships for Baum he continued to discontinue his Oz series as he moved to L.A. with Maud for a lower cost of living. "In this 'final' chapter of the Oz saga Baum at last resolved the issue that had so long puzzled his child readers: what would it take for Dorothy to accept Ozma's offer to live forever in Emerald City instead of on the bleak Kansas prairie The answer proved to be the impending foreclosure of Uncle Henry's farm.
