In the very scarce dust jacket which has internal tape reinforcements and chips missing from the head and foot of the spine and one corner of the front panel. Account of the unsuccessful 1930 International Himalaya Expedition led by Gunter Dyrenfurth which was plagued by bad weather an avalanche and other mishaps. Smythe describes the extensive preparations for the expedition the Himalayan scenery travels in the region--including a visit to the Pemayangste Monastery and the party's successful ascent of Jonsong 24344 feet. Very mild spine slant rubbing to extremities; internals clean and sound. Lady Brassey was a skilled photographer and botanist and also had an interest in medicine. She and her husband a Member of Parliament and accomplished sailor traveled extensively on their yacht "Sunbeam" and Annie's lively books about their adventures found an eager audience. One of Samuelson's many novel contributions was that he generalized and applied mathematical methods developed for the study of thermodynamics to the field of economics. His inspiration for doing so came in part from his mentor polymath Edwin Bisdwell Wilson who was a former Yale student of the founder of chemical thermodynamics Willard Gibbs. The author recounts her experiences on an extended Raymong and Whitcomb tour which took her across the country from Boston to California and back again. Includes chapters on Pasadena Los Angeles Santa Barbara Riverside San Diego Sonoma County and Santa Cruz and two chapters on Yosemite. She visited Salt Lake City on the return trip. Flake 2398 describes the relevant section of her book thus: "A visit to Utah after 'polygamy was dead.' She attends a meeting at the Mormon tabernacle."
