570615 December 1880; on letterhead of the Daily Telegraph. Three pages 12mo. On aged paper with some foxing a few closed tears and wear to extremities. Glue and strip of mount adhering to blank verso of second leaf of bifolium. Text clear and entire. He is in 'a maelstrom of work and worry' and asks Ross 'a question which you are almost certain not to be able to answer!' Asks if he has 'seen Tom Smith's crackers' and if so whether he observed 'anything specially and eminently notable'. 'The packet he sent here has gone off to Brighton or Blazes before its contents were disclosed to my eyes.' Consequently he has written 'from the point of view of total darkness'. If Ross could furnish 'a hint to which I could list or a list from which I could take a hint there might be time for me to pop in a line of particulars.' Gives his private address and asks if Ross has seen his 'notice of Judy's Annual'. 15 December 1880; on letterhead of the Daily Telegraph. unknown

Ends: 'No doubt we will knock into each other shortly.' 2 January 1952; on Fleet Street letterhead of the Sunday Express. unknown
