The full foolscap octavo edition of Don Juan preceded in each case by quarto editions in the same year. Cantos I-II are from an early but not first printing with 1820 date at base of title page but no statement of "New Edition" as seems somewhat common though this issue appears unmentioned by Wise. Set in ancient Nineveh and recounting the fall of the Assyrian monarchy and its supposed last king Sardanapalus draws its story mainly from the Historical Library of Diodorus Siculus and from William Mitford's History of Greece. Byron wrote the play during his stay in Ravenna and dedicated it to Goethe. Mazeppa bound without the half title and the rear ads apparently the 2nd issue the imprint was moved to the verso of the ads page for the 2nd issue. The Deformed Transformed is the second edition. 80pp; 69 1 pp; 88pp.<br/><br/>The fragment included after Mazeppa is the result of the famous ghost writing contest which resulted in Frankenstein.
